This content was preserved from the original amberfoundation.org page. The Amber Foundation was Dennis’ attempt to share information on feral cat care and especially treating feline mange.
This page is dedicated to the feral cats whom we have endeavored to help through Trap/Neuter/Release.
Ideally, we would prefer to find adoptive homes for stray cats, but sometimes strays are too afraid of people to be adopted, and sometimes the shelters are full and there are too many cats to find homes for them all.
In this situation, we trap the cat, have it spayed or neutered, and then release it back into the wild. At the very least, this curbs the cycle of cats having kittens. But it also directly benefits the altered cats: males fight less and females do not have to go through the stress of pregnancy.
We always use humane Havahart-brand traps. They do a good job of catching the critters without hurting them.
Dark Tail

- Trapped 12 March 2006.
- Confined to deliver kittens. After weaning, kittens will be neutered and adopted out. Then Dark Tail will be neutered.
- Died 27 March 2006. Vet said acute anemia, but didn’t have any other details. Presumably, the pregnancy had problems and we didn’t find out until it was too late.
Callie
